Overview

One-third of all food is wasted and the planet is suffering from that. Our challenge is to develop a product that can help local business reducing their food waste, gains the revenue and of course, saves the world! The project is a part of my final project at Le Wagon's web development boot camp in Tokyo.

Research

We targeted the interviews on local businesses, small-medium- hotels, and restaurants. The goal is to find out the source of waste and what struggles the restaurant is currently facing to manage the waste.

First, we cross-check with the restaurant on what type of food potentially generates the most waste apart from the customer's leftovers. We categorized into six categories

As you can see above, all of them are still eatable. The restaurants themselves don't know how to deal with it instead of dumping it into the trash. They hardly find a channel to distribute because of an unpredictable amount, plus unmatched market needs.

Opportunity

How might we help distribute unwanted food and ingredients before they turn to waste?

Solution

A marketplace that helps restaurant owners sell their eatable ingredients to local households, other shops or giveaways to nearby food banks.

Rescue ingredients in real-time around your neighbour

As a Nomo's customer, you'll be able to help save food from becoming waste around your current area because we don't want you to create more carbon footprint along the way to pick up your order. On top of that, we also provide a donating option to give the ingredients to local food banks.

prevent generating more waste.

The goal of Nomo is to help restaurants avoid creating more waste on the planet as much as possible, and waste statistics will help the owners get more insight i their inventory in numbers.
